ESSU Guiuan’s Selected Programs go for Level 1 AACCUP Accreditation

Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Guiuan Campus remains fervent in its pursuit of championing academic excellence as three of its programs undergo Level 1 Accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). To commence the accreditation related activities wheeling from March 14-18, 2022, an opening program was initiated at the Campus Function Hall. The programs that were tested in the said activity were the Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) Major in Kindergarten Education, and Major in Educational Management, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA).

The AACCUP Survey Teams was headed by Dr. Marcela T. Caluscosin, Survey Team Coordinator, was composed of professors from other state universities and colleges (SUC’s) across the country. The MAEd survey team was led by Dr. Annalene Grace E. Co, Team Leader, accompanied Prof. Grace B. Brizuela, and Prof. Mary Ann C. Mangapot. Meanwhile, Dr. Jhonel C. Panlilio, Team Leader of the BSBA Survey Team works together with Prof. Karlo Pedro L. Medroso II and Prof. Mangapot. Additionally, Dr. Nemia M. Galang, Team Leader of the BSIT Survey Team is with Prof. Kelvin Kris C. Gonzales and Prof. Mangapot.

In the message delivered by Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., University President, he expressed that the university hopes for the success of the undertaking and he looks forward on the continued advancement of the university in the name of academic excellence. He stated, “…we hope that we will attain this unsurmountable dream of the university to raise its bar of excellence by submitting the university to higher scope leveling and attain its next level which is Level IV.” He also emphasized the university’s status in terms of its program accreditations as he said, “Today, the university has several programs with AACCUP accredited status across campuses. Today, 14 programs with Level III accredited status, 25 programs with Level II accredited status, 10 programs with Level I accredited status, and 8 programs with candidate status.”

In the overview of the accreditation process delivered by Dr. Caluscosin, she highlighted the importance of the approach of the accreditation to each academic programs as she stated, “They [Accreditation Survey Teams] are very important to be holistic in nature if only to give justice to the accreditation visit.”

The five-day accreditation activity was held through Zoom Meet following stringent measures set forth by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 spread prevention.
